Definition

Gluttony is the excessive indulgence in food and drink, defying the order of reason which prescribes necessity as the measure of eating and drinking. According to scholastic teaching, this immoderation may occur in five ways: eating too soon, too expensively, too much, too eagerly, or too daintily.
