Derision

Summary

Contemptuous ridicule or mockery, which the wicked heap upon the righteous but which God ultimately turns upon the ungodly.

Suffering Derision

The righteous often suffer mockery. Jeremiah became 'a derision to all my people.' Job lamented that he became a byword and a tabret. David was a reproach to his enemies. Jesus was mocked and ridiculed at His trial and crucifixion.

God's Derision

God laughs at the wicked and holds their schemes in derision. 'He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.' The nations who rage against God's anointed are objects of His scorn. Their plots are futile against His sovereign purposes.
