Condescension of God

/kon-dih-SEN-shun of GOD/

Summary

God's gracious lowering of Himself to fellowship with and help His creatures, ultimately expressed in the incarnation of Christ.

Divine Humility

Though God is infinitely exalted, He condescends to regard the lowly. The Psalmist marvels that God visits humanity. Isaiah declares that though God dwells in the high and holy place, He also dwells with the contrite and humble.

Christ's Incarnation

The supreme condescension of God is Christ's incarnation. Though existing in the form of God, He did not grasp equality with God but emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant and humbling Himself to death on a cross.
