Rachal

/RAY-kal/

Summary

Rachal was a town in the territory of Judah to which David sent portions of the spoil taken from the Amalekites.

David's Gift

Rachal was one of the places in the south of Judah where David and his men had roamed during his flight from Saul. After David recovered the spoil from the Amalekites who had raided Ziklag, he sent portions of the plunder to the elders in various cities of Judah, including Rachal. The town's exact location is unknown, though some manuscripts read 'Carmel' instead of Rachal, suggesting a possible textual corruption.
