Nod

נוֹד/NAHD/

Wandering or flight

Summary

Nod was the land to which Cain departed after being cursed by God for murdering his brother Abel.

Cain's Exile

After Cain killed Abel and received God's curse that he would be a fugitive and wanderer on the earth, he 'went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.' The name Nod means 'wandering' or 'flight,' fitting for the place of Cain's exile.

Key verses:Genesis 4:16

Location

The exact location of the land of Nod is unknown and cannot be determined from Scripture. It is described only as being 'east of Eden.' Some scholars suggest it may be a symbolic designation meaning 'the land of wandering' rather than a specific geographical location.
