Mount Zalmon

Mount Zalmon was a wooded mountain near Shechem from which Abimelech and his followers gathered branches to burn the stronghold of the house of El-berith where the Shechemite leaders had taken refuge. The mountain is also mentioned in Psalm 68:14, where snow upon Zalmon is referenced. The name means 'shady,' suggesting it was heavily forested.

The Warrior

Zalmon the Ahohite was one of David's mighty men, listed among the elite warriors known as the Thirty. In the parallel list in 1 Chronicles 11:29, he is called Ilai, which may be an alternate form of the same name.
