/thad-DEE-us/
Summary
Thaddaeus was one of the twelve apostles, also known as Lebbaeus and identified with Judas the son of James.
☩Identity
Thaddaeus appears in the apostolic lists of Matthew and Mark. He is commonly identified with 'Judas the son of James' in Luke's lists and 'Judas not Iscariot' in John's Gospel. The name Thaddaeus (also rendered Lebbaeus in some manuscripts) may mean 'courageous' or 'warm-hearted.' Having three names was not unusual, as Simon was also called Peter and Cephas.
