Key verses:1 Chronicles 7:36

District

The 'land of Shual' denotes a district named in connection with the direction taken by one of three parties of Philistine marauders who issued from their camp at Michmash. Its connection with Ophrah and the direction of the other routes makes it likely this region lay north of Michmash. If identical with the 'land of Shalim,' it would provide a clue to Saul's journey searching for his father's donkeys. The name may derive from the Hebrew word for 'jackal,' appropriate for the wild, desolate region east of Taiyibeh.
