Shimeon was a layman of Israel from the family of Harim who had married a foreign wife. During Ezra's reforms requiring the dissolution of marriages to foreign women, Shimeon was among those who put away his wife. The name is elsewhere rendered 'Simeon' and carries the same meaning.
