Sethur was the son of Michael, from the tribe of Asher. He was chosen as one of the twelve tribal representatives whom Moses sent from the wilderness of Paran to spy out the land of Canaan. The spying mission took place approximately 1657 B.C. His name in Hebrew (Sethur) means 'hidden.'
