Summary

The name of two men in Scripture: an ancestor of David in the lineage of Christ, and a son of Caleb who founded Bethlehem.

Ancestor of David

Salma (also spelled Salmon) was the father of Boaz and an ancestor of David and ultimately of Jesus Christ. According to Matthew's genealogy, he married Rahab of Jericho. His name means 'garment' in Hebrew.

Son of Caleb

Another Salma was one of three sons of Caleb the son of Hur, called the 'father' (meaning founder or headman) of Bethlehem and of the Netophathites. He may have become head of Bethlehem in Caleb's territory through residence or marriage.
