Sabtecha

סַבְתְּכָא/sab-TEE-kuh/

Unknown

Summary

The fifth and last named son of Cush, whose descendants probably settled near the Persian Gulf.

Identity

Sabtecha was the last of five sons of Cush, son of Ham, listed in the Table of Nations. His settlements would probably have been near the Persian Gulf, close to those of Raamah, who is listed just before him among the Cushites. Bochart placed him in Carmania on the Persian shore, comparing the name with the city Samydace mentioned by ancient geographers. The name Sabatok has been discovered on Egyptian monuments, perhaps confirming an African connection.
