Summary

Rephaiah is the name of five men in the Old Testament, including a descendant of David, a Simeonite captain, and a ruler who helped rebuild Jerusalem's wall.

Royal and Military Leaders

The first Rephaiah was a son of Hananiah and father of Arnan, among the descendants of Zerubbabel in the royal line of David. Another Rephaiah was a son of Ishi, one of the chieftains of the tribe of Simeon in the reign of Hezekiah, who led five hundred men against the Amalekites of Mount Seir. A third Rephaiah, son of Hur, was ruler of half of Jerusalem and helped rebuild the wall under Nehemiah.

Other Persons Named Rephaiah

A fourth Rephaiah was a son of Tola and head of a family in the tribe of Issachar. The fifth Rephaiah was a son of Binea and eighth in lineal descent from Saul's son Jonathan; he is also called Rapha in the parallel passage. The name means 'healed of Jehovah.'
