Jeshebeab
יֶשֶׁבְאָב/jeh-SHEB-ee-ab/
“Father's seat, or dwelling of the father”
Summary
A priest who served as the head of the fourteenth division of priests in the organization established by David for Temple service.
☩Priestly Division
Jeshebeab was the head of the fourteenth course or division of priests as arranged by David (1 Chronicles 24:13). His name means 'seat of his father' or 'father's seat.' Some ancient manuscripts, including the Septuagint, suggest an original reading of 'Ishbaal,' which may have been altered due to the word 'Baal' forming part of the name. He served around 1014 B.C.
