Summary
A prince of Judah sent by King Zedekiah to the prophet Jeremiah to request his prayers, who later joined in demanding Jeremiah's death.
☩Historical Role
Jehucal, son of Shelemiah, was one of two persons sent by King Zedekiah to the prophet Jeremiah to request his prayers on behalf of the kingdom during the Babylonian siege. However, after returning with Jeremiah's unfavorable response, Jehucal joined with other princes in demanding the prophet's death, claiming his words were demoralizing the soldiers and people. He is called one of 'the princes' in Jeremiah 38:4. His name appears in the contracted form Jucal in Jeremiah 38:1.
