Hazo

חֲזוֹ/HAY-zoh/

Perhaps "vision" or a shortened form of a theophoric name

Summary

Hazo was a son of Nahor (Abraham's brother) by his wife Milcah, whose descendants probably settled in northern Mesopotamia or the borders of northern Arabia.

Descendant of Nahor

Hazo appears in the genealogy of Nahor's sons, listed alongside Uz, Buz, Kemuel, and others. Nahor's descendants generally settled in the region of Ur of the Chaldees and the adjacent countries of upper Mesopotamia. Some scholars connect Hazo with Chazene, a place mentioned by ancient geographers on the Euphrates in Mesopotamia or Assyria. The name Ha-zu-u has been found in Assyrian inscriptions, possibly pointing to settlements on the borders of northern Arabia.
