אֶלְעָד/EE-lee-ad/
“God has testified, or whom God has praised”
Summary
A descendant of Ephraim who was slain by the men of Gath while attempting a cattle raid, an event that caused his father great grief.
☩Death at the Hands of Gath
Elead was a descendant of Ephraim who, along with Ezer, was slain by the men of Gath during a raid to steal cattle. The men of Gath, native to the land, killed them when they came down to take away their livestock. This tragic event caused great grief—Ephraim (or the family head of his lineage) mourned many days, and his kinsmen came to comfort him. Afterward, a son named Beriah ('in evil' or 'calamity') was born, named because of the tragedy that had befallen the house.
