Cheran was the last named of the four sons of Dishon, who was a Horite 'duke' or clan chief descended from Seir the Horite, the aboriginal inhabitants of the region later known as Edom. The Horites ('cave-dwellers') inhabited Mount Seir before being dispossessed by the descendants of Esau. Cheran appears in both the Genesis and Chronicles genealogies of the Horite clans.
