Carshena was the first named among the seven chief nobles or princes at the court of King Ahasuerus (Xerxes) of Persia around 483 B.C. These seven princes 'saw the king's face' and held the highest positions in the kingdom. They were consulted when Queen Vashti refused to appear at the royal banquet, and their advice led to her removal as queen.
