“Faltering, or bashful”
Summary
Rachel's handmaid whom she gave to Jacob as a concubine, becoming the mother of Dan and Naphtali; also the name of a town in Simeon.
☩Rachel's Handmaid
Bilhah was the handmaid whom Laban gave to his daughter Rachel. When Rachel remained childless, she gave Bilhah to Jacob as a concubine, saying 'that I may also have children by her.' Through Bilhah, Jacob fathered Dan and Naphtali. Later, Jacob's firstborn Reuben committed incest with Bilhah, an act for which Jacob rebuked him on his deathbed, resulting in Reuben losing his birthright privileges.
