Alvah(aliah)

עַלְוָה/AL-vuh/

Evil, or exalted

Summary

An Edomite chieftain (duke) descended from Esau, also called Aliah in Chronicles.

Identity

Alvah was the second named of the Edomite chieftains descended from Esau. In the parallel genealogical passage in Chronicles, the name appears as Aliah, likely a textual variant of the same name. Alvah may possibly be the same person as Alvan son of Shobal, though this identification is uncertain.
