Summary
A ribband (or ribbon) of blue was commanded to be attached to the tassels on Israelite garments as a reminder to keep God's commandments.
☩Blue Thread
God commanded the Israelites to put a ribband of blue on the fringes (tzitzit) of their garments throughout their generations. This blue thread was to remind them to observe all of God's commandments and be holy to their God. The blue dye was derived from a sea creature and was expensive.
