A trench or pit, used literally and figuratively in Scripture for traps, judgment, and blind leadership.

Figurative Uses

Jesus warned that if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch. The pit or ditch represents judgment and calamity. The harlot is described as a deep ditch. Whoever digs a pit for others will fall into it themselves.
