Ashima
/a-SHI-ma/
☩Foreign Deity
After the Assyrians conquered the northern kingdom of Israel, they repopulated Samaria with foreign peoples from various nations. These colonists brought their own gods with them. The men of Hamath made Ashima, their ancestral deity. This contributed to the syncretistic religion that developed in Samaria, mixing Yahweh worship with idolatry.
