Ashurites

/ASH-er-ites/

Summary

A people or territory mentioned in connection with Ish-bosheth's kingdom.

Ish-bosheth's Subjects

The Ashurites appear as one of the groups over whom Abner made Ish-bosheth king after Saul's death. Their identity is debated—they may be a clan of Asher, inhabitants of a region called Ashur, or possibly the Geshurites (a textual variant). They were part of the northern territory that opposed David's rule from Hebron.
