Honesty

Summary

Integrity and truthfulness in conduct and speech, commanded throughout Scripture as essential to godly living and community trust.

Biblical Teaching

Scripture repeatedly commands honesty: 'Do not steal. Do not lie. Do not deceive one another' (Leviticus 19:11). Proverbs extensively praises truthfulness and warns against dishonesty. Paul urges believers to 'put off falsehood and speak truthfully' (Ephesians 4:25) and to 'lead a quiet life...so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders' (1 Thessalonians 4:11-12). In 1 Timothy 2:2, prayer is offered for 'a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and honesty.'
