The Month

Elul was the sixth month of the Jewish ecclesiastical year and twelfth of the civil year, beginning with the new moon of August-September and consisting of twenty-nine days. It was during this month that Nehemiah completed the rebuilding of Jerusalem's walls on the twenty-fifth day. The etymology of the name is uncertain, possibly derived from a Babylonian word.
