Summary
Tob was a district east of the Jordan to which Jephthah fled from his brothers and where he gathered a band of men.
☩Location and History
Tob was a region east of the Jordan, apparently in the territory later known as Hauran or Trachonitis. When Jephthah was driven out by his half-brothers, he fled to the land of Tob and gathered around him a band of 'worthless fellows' who went raiding with him. The men of Tob later provided soldiers to fight against David alongside the Ammonites and Syrians.
