Maarath was a city in the hill country of Judah, located between Gedor and Beth-anoth, north of Hebron.

Maarath appears in the list of cities allotted to the tribe of Judah in the mountain region, grouped with Gedor and Beth-anoth. The name may derive from a root meaning 'openness' or 'cave.' The site has been tentatively identified with Beit Ummar, a village on the watershed about a mile from Khirbet Jedur (ancient Gedor), where many rock tombs have been found.
