Kithlish

כִּתְלִישׁ/KITH-lish/

Possibly 'man's wall' or 'as if she would knead'

Summary

A town in the lowland region of Judah whose exact location remains uncertain.

Location and Identification

Kithlish was a town in the Shephelah or lowland plain of Judah, mentioned between Lahmam and Gederoth in the biblical record. It was evidently situated in the southwestern part of Judah's territory, though its precise location has not been definitively established. Some scholars have proposed identification with the ruined site el-Jilas, while others have suggested Jelamneh, a mound with some foundations located between Gaza and Lachish. The town appears only once in Scripture, in the list of cities allocated to the tribe of Judah during the division of the promised land.
