Hammoth dor

חַמֹּת דֹּאר/HAM-oth-DOR/

Hot springs of the dwelling (or generation)

Summary

Hammoth-dor was a Levitical city of refuge in the territory of Naphtali, probably identical with Hammath and Hammon.

City of Refuge

Hammoth-dor was designated as a Levitical city and city of refuge in the territory of Naphtali. The name means "hot places of Dor" or "hot springs of the dwelling." By comparison of the lists in Joshua 19:35, Joshua 21:32, and 1 Chronicles 6:76, it appears to be the same place as Hammath and Hammon—the famous hot springs site near Tiberias on the Sea of Galilee.
