Unknown significance

Summary

Halah was a district or city in Mesopotamia to which Israelite captives were deported by the Assyrian kings, located near the river Habor.

Place of Israelite Exile

Halah was one of the regions to which the Assyrian kings deported Israelite captives after conquering the northern kingdom. Scripture mentions it alongside Habor and Gozan as destinations for the exiles. The district lay along the banks of the Upper Khabour river, extending from its source to its junction with the Jerujer. Halah, Habor, and Gozan were situated close together on the left bank of the Euphrates. The name may be preserved in the modern site of Gla or Cla on this river.
