Chesulloth

כְּסֻלּוֹת/ke-SUL-oth/

Loins or flanks

Summary

A city in the territory of Issachar, near the border with Zebulun, probably the same as Chisloth-Tabor.

Location and Identity

Chesulloth was a city in the tribal allotment of Issachar, mentioned between Jezreel and Shunem near the tribal border. It is probably identical with Chisloth-Tabor mentioned in Joshua 19:12 and the simple 'Tabor' of 1 Chronicles 6:77. The name may derive from a Hebrew root meaning 'loins' or 'flanks,' suggesting the city's position on the slope of a hill. The site is identified with the modern village of Iksal on the northern edge of the Plain of Esdraelon, about three miles west of Mount Tabor.
