Identity

Simri (properly spelled Shimri) was a son of Hosah, a Merarite Levite assigned by David as a doorkeeper in the house of the Lord. Though he was not the firstborn son, his father made him chief among his brothers, suggesting exceptional qualities that merited this distinction.
