Kedemah

קֵדְמָה/KED-uh-mah/

Eastward, or toward the east

Summary

The youngest son of Ishmael and head of an Arab tribe bearing his name.

Identity

Kedemah was the last named and youngest of the twelve sons of Ishmael, Abraham's son by Hagar. Like his brothers, he became the head of a clan or tribe bearing his name. The name itself means "eastward," which appropriately describes the general direction in which the Ishmaelite tribes settled relative to Canaan. Beyond this brief genealogical notice, Scripture provides no additional information about Kedemah or his descendants.
