Summary

The father of Amasa, David's nephew who became a military commander.

Identity

Ithra was an Israelite (called an Ishmaelite in 1 Chronicles, possibly due to dwelling among them) who married Abigail, sister of David. Their son Amasa was appointed by Absalom to lead his army, and later by David to replace Joab. Ithra is also called Jether in some passages.
