Perhaps a boy

Summary

Both an Amorite chief who allied with Abraham against Chedorlaomer, and a Levitical city in the tribe of Manasseh.

The Amorite Chief

Aner was one of three Canaanitish chiefs (along with Eshcol and Mamre) in the neighborhood of Hebron who joined their forces with Abraham in pursuit of Chedorlaomer and his allies after they had pillaged Sodom and carried Lot captive. Unlike Abraham, who refused any spoil, these chiefs retained their portion of the recovered goods.

The Levitical City

Aner was also a city of Manasseh, west of the Jordan, given to the Levites of Kohath's family. Some scholars suggest this may be the same as Taanach mentioned in other lists.
