Summary

The moral distinction that humanity gained knowledge of through the fall, represented by the tree in Eden.

The Tree of Knowledge

The tree of the knowledge of good and evil stood in the midst of the garden of Eden beside the tree of life. Adam and Eve were forbidden to eat its fruit, but disobeying the divine command, they ate and gained knowledge of good and evil. Through this act, sin and death entered the world and became the heritage of all Adam's descendants.
